About this ROYAL SCOT LIVE STEAM LOCOMOTIVE

A fine model of the "Royal Scot", the first of a class of locomotives designed by Sir Henry Fowler for the LMS and built in 1927. The original engine toured the USA in 1933 creating much interest - as a result of this visit, Bassett Lowke received an order for a 1 1/2 inch scale model from an American customer, with Henry Greenly preparing the design. Subsequently a second engine was produced for display in their London shop window, after which the model became part of their standard range, available to special order at a price of 500. We have here a 3 1/2 inch gauge "Royal Scot" which has been partly dismantled for repainting. This has now been completed and put back together save for the pipework as a boiler test and certificate will be required should you wish to steam the engine. Presently the condition is very good and it has been suggested by a specialist in Birmingham that circa £500 would provide this test/certificate and refitting of pipework ready for steaming. We have been advised that the previous owner has run the chassis on air and we can see that everything is free moving. A mechanical lubricator beneath the smokebox door feeds cylinders and axleboxes, with a knurled priming knob just forward of the righthand cylinder. Cab-operated draincocks are fitted and the locomotive is fitted with an effective brake. Really wonderful in the present condition as an ornament with lots to look at or with a small amount of recommissioning as above, this would function as it was intended (an amount of track supplied and included). Comes with engineers drawings.
